The Story of MACE Dance Club So far…

In February 2010, the first auditions to the college choreography team was held selecting the best dancers of the college. Later in july, the first official meeting with the selected dancers was held, planning for the first ever platform of the team performance at ‘DHWANI 2010’(Annual cultural festival of CET Trivandrum). The practice for this was held thereafter under the supervision and choreography of Charles Joseph and the team had their first performance on 2nd September, 2010. Besides the choreography team performance there were other individual events in which the team members showed notable participation.

Following this the team performed for the Union day Inauguration at college held on 31st January, 2011. After that, it was ‘RAGAM 2011’(Annual cultural festival of NIT Calicut). The team performed in the Theme Section a piece depicting the story of ‘Vaishali’. Another team of two won the 2nd prize for duet performance, and various events saw active participation from the team members.

Though the first few attempts had not been much fruitful, the following year saw mind blowing performances from the team at various stages. The next academic session began with a grand alumni meet on 30th July ’11 where the team performed a mixture of Indian Folk dance styles, the Bhangra, Garbha and Dandiya.

On 17th September, the team performed at IGNIZ ‘11(Annual cultural festival of SCMS school of Engineering, Cochin) and won the third prize for their dance depicting the story of a warfare love. The year 2012 began with the team’s performance for the college Arts Club inauguration held on 24th January. February 2012 saw a series of performances by the team, beginning with a classical performance on  15th at ‘BRAHMA’ (Annual cultural fest of Adi Shankara college of Engineering, Kalady). The team gave a wonderful performance on 16th at ‘ADWAITHA 2012’ (Annual cultural fest of Govt College of Engineering, Idukki) grabbing the 1st prize. A day later on 18th , the team performed at BHARATHAM (Annual cultural fest of FISAT).

A week after this, the team gave a series of performances at ‘MEDHA 2012’ on 24th February. The performance included three sections in which the first one was a classical folk depicting the story of a typical South Indian fair. The second section was a contemporary performance and the third one was a fusion of Persian traditional dance with the beautiful Flamenco. Following this, the team gave a theme performance at ‘RAGAM 2012’ depicting ‘Gandhari Vilapa’. Two members of the team won 3rd prize for their duet performance. On 22nd July 2012, the team performed at the Annual general body meeting of MACE Alumni showcasing a duet performance of Kathak, followed by a group performance of Garbha and at last a Spanish dance.

Meanwhile, the team was officially named as ‘DANCE CLUB de MACE’. As a promo to our own TAKSHAK 12, the annual technical fest of MACE the team organized a Flash Mob at Oberon Mall Cochin on 21st September 2012 which received large applause from all those who saw it live and gained widespread recognition through Television, Newspapers and the Social Media.
